On Wednesday morning, the Salvation Army put out a call for support, asking community members to sign up to ring a bell between now and Christmas Eve.

Salvation Army bell ringers are out in full force with Red Kettles at about 30 locations throughout the area, like one inside the lobby of the Tops on Main and Union in Williamsville. It’s a fundraising event dating back to the late 1800s.

The Salvation Army is asking residents, businesses and local foundations to dig a little deeper in donating this year because they are far from their fundraising goal, according to Captain Ted Tressler.
