Five years after people wept as they watched a huge fire tear through Paris' iconic Notre-Dame cathedral destroying the vaulted wooden ceiling and spire, the storied medieval landmark will reopen its doors once again in a weekend of celebration and ceremony.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump returns to the world stage on Saturday to join leaders for the reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, still a private citizen but already preparing to tackle a host of international crises.

The Notre Dame Cathedral will provide a lofty backdrop for President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the geopolitical stage on Saturday, when French officials put an ornate line under the five-year project to restore the soaring landmark with a reopening ceremony featuring dozens of world leaders.

The French president has often used the reconstruction of Notre-Dame as a parable for his own fortunes, repeating that he was ridiculed in 2019 when he promised to rebuild it in five years and that, defying sceptics,

William will join other world leaders in Paris for the ceremonial reopening of the world-famous cathedral.

Trump wrote when he accepted the invitation earlier this week that French President Emmanuel Macron had done “a wonderful job ensuring that Notre Dame has been restored to its full level of glory, and even more so.
