Indian billionaire Gautam Adani oversees a sprawling conglomerate with activities spanning construction of airports to supply of electricity and the sale of cooking oil.

Adani, 62, one of Asia’s richest men, was thrust into the spotlight last week when U.S. prosecutors in New York charged him and seven of his associates with securities fraud.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs clarified that the US allegations against Adani executives are legal matters concerning private entities.

Federal prosecutors issued arrest warrants for the billionaire head of the Adani Group and his nephew Sagar, alleging they participated in a $265 million scheme to bribe Indian officials to secure power-supply deals.

India has not received any request from the United States regarding the service of summons on billionaire Gautam Adani, who has been indicted in a US court on charges of bribery, the government said on Friday.

The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that India was not informed in advance about the allegations against Adani Group executives by the US Department of Justice. The accusations involve supposed bribery and corruption,

India's ministry of external affairs has clarified that it had no prior information about the US Justice Department's indictment of Gautam Adani on bribery charges. The MEA has not received any summons or warrants related to the case.

The US Department of Justice has accused Gautam Adani and others of bribing Indian officials to secure solar energy contracts and subsequently misleading investors in the United States about their activities.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in an official statement, said that the government has no role in the legal proceedings involving Adani-linked entities in the United States.

The external affairs ministry said that any request by a foreign government for service of summons/arrest warrant is part of mutual legal assistance. Such requests are examined on merits.
