With more lake-effect snowfall on the way, Erie and county officials are preparing for the melting snow down the road, and into the catch basins.

Lake-effect snow occurs when the water temperatures of the lake are warmer than the air temperatures that blow above it, according to the National Weather Service.

Erie residents are bracing themselves for another round of snow, and this time, there around concerns about freezing temperatures and ice. As a community staple on Erie's East Side, New York Lunch owner, Gus Paliouras knows how important having clear streets are. He was pleased with how the city handled the most recent snow fall.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland's lake-effect snow warning for Erie County extends until Friday at 7 a.m.

Temperatures are expected to reach the upper 40s early next week, which could lead to significant snow melt. But the warm-up will be short-lived.
