India on Tuesday condemned the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a Hindu priest and a religious minority leader in Bangladesh. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also urged the Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all other minorities.

This incident follows the multiple attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh, protests erupted following the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das on charges including sedition. The demonstrations, predominantly in Dhaka and Chittagong, were met with teargas from police.

India on Tuesday expressed its "deep concern" over the arrest and subsequent denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Mancha and head of Pundarik Dham in Chittagong.

The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday urged the Bangladesh authorities ‘to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities’.
