The 2024 hurricane season officially ends - and it has been more active than usual, with climate change partly to blame.

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season comes to a close Saturday, bringing to an end a season that saw 11 hurricanes compared to the average seven, and death and destruction hundreds of miles from where storms came ashore on the U.

The Atlantic spawned 11 hurricanes this season, above the annual average of seven. Also above average was the number of major hurricanes, defined as Category 3 strength or higher on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale.
