He skated before practice Monday wearing a track suit and helmet while Capitals athletic trainer Jason Serbus watched from the bench.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was spotted skating again on Monday in quite a shocking--yet promising--development in his recovery from a fractured left fibula. Caps insider Tarik El-Bashir shared footage of Ovechkin skating around the ice at the Capitals practice facility, fueling optimism for a return before the end of December.

Ovechkin wore a tracksuit and a helmet with stick in hand but no hockey gear during his light workout, which coach Spencer Carbery said he believed was the 39-year-old longtime captain’s first time back on the ice since the injury.
