One of the biggest midseason scheduling changes in NFL history is taking place next month. On Friday, the NFL announced the Week 16 game between the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals will be flexed out of "Thursday Night Football" and replaced with the Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers.

The NFL is flexing a "Thursday Night Football" matchup in Week 16, an unprecedented move considering how different preparation is for Thursday and Sunday games.

CBS Sports’ Amy Trask, who used to work in front offices in the AFC West, has suggested the NFL should reimburse impacted fans. “There are business reasons for flexing games, but I believe it appropriate to reimburse fans who can’t adjust to a schedule flex for reasonable out of pocket costs,” Trask said on social media.

The NFL is permitting Thursday Night Football flex scheduling in 2024 on a trial basis; this is the league's first use of the practice. A decision is required to be made no later than 28 days prior to the game. Los Angeles defeated Denver 23–16 in the two teams' initial matchup on Oct. 13.
