Paris, France (AFP) ­– Dutch marathon runner Sifan Hassan and Botswanan sprinter Letsile Tebogo, both of whom took gold at the Paris Olympics, were named ‘Athletes of the Year’ by World Athletics in Monaco on Sunday.

Olympic champions Letsile Tebogo and Sifan Hassan were named male and female athlete of the year at the World Awards in Monaco .

Olympic marathon champion Sifan Hassan has become the first Dutch sportswoman to be named World Athlete of the Year at a ceremony held by the sport’s governing body. Hassan, 31, won a fans’ poll after taking the gold medal on the streets of Paris to clime her third Olympic title and sixth medal.

Sifan Hassan was chosen as the best athlete in the world for 2024 at the awards gala of the global association World Athletics in Monaco. The Olympic marathon champion is the first Dutch athlete to receive this honor.
