Princess Diana also previously wore the same necklace during a state banquet in the Netherlands in 1982. Experts at UK retailer Steven Stone estimate the piece is worth $26,300 (£23,000).

Kate wore a four-strand pearl choker necklace, with the pearl rows joined at the middle by marquise diamonds. The pearls were originally gifted to Queen Elizabeth II during her first-ever state visit to Japan back in 1975. The queen later commissioned luxury court jeweler Garrard to construct the pearls into a necklace.
