Earlier in the season, it looked like the Falcons were going to run away with the division title, but Atlanta has now lost three straight games to fall to 6-6. The race for the NFC South crown stands to get interesting during the season's final five weeks.

Mayfield left the game briefly after getting his foot stepped on following a sack in the third quarter, but returned and hit some huge passes late in the fourth down and again in overtime to get the win. He was helped by rookie running back Bucky Irving, who had a breakout performance with 152 yards rushing.

Carolina (3-8) is well out of the postseason hunt but has been playing better lately. The Panthers won back-to-back games before falling to the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs last week on a walk-off field goal.
